New Patients What to Expect on Your First Visit

Your First Visit to Birmingham Orthodontics

Your first visit will consist of an initial consultation that is absolutely free of charge. Once you’ve made an appointment, download our first visit paperwork, fill it out, and bring it with you. You can also fill out this paperwork in our office — it will simply save you some time if you fill it out in advance. It’s also a good idea to call your insurance provider before your first appointment to find out if you have orthodontics coverage and, if so, what your specific orthodontic benefits are.

When you come into our office, you’ll find yourself in a relaxing, modern space. Our front desk staff will greet you and, after turning in your paperwork, you’ll be led into the exam area. A highly-trained orthodontics assistant will take x-rays of your teeth and then one of our orthodontists will meet with you. He or she will look over the x-rays, examine the inside of your mouth, and determine whether or not braces are right for you. If you are a candidate for braces, your orthodontist will suggest an ideal time to begin treatment, explain your treatment plan, and discuss your orthodontic options — metal braces, ceramic braces, or Invisalign.

After being examined by an orthodontist, you’ll meet with one of our treatment coordinators to discuss whether or not you’d like to move forward with braces and what financing options are available. If you decide that you would like to begin treatment that day, we’ll offer you a 50% discount on your records — impressions of your teeth that can be made during your initial visit. If there’s room in the schedule, you could even have your braces applied to your teeth that very day. We ask that the person who will be financially responsible for the treatment bring a diver’s license, insurance card, and a form of payment in case the patient would like to being treatment with us.

The initial consultation is absolutely free and our orthodontists make no attempt to pressure patients into receiving treatment that they do not need. Whether you think your child might need braces in a few years or you’re curious to learn how easily ceramic braces could improve your adult smile, there’s no risk in coming in for a consultation.
